ROOTS OF PEACE RECEIVES INAUGURAL EARTH ETHICS AWARD

UN International Day of Peace In Action  SEPTEMBER 21, 2018—New York City, NY—Roots of Peace, a California based humanitarian non-profit, will be presented the inaugural EARTH ETHICS award by Marcus Nobel, nephew of Alfred Nobel, at the United Nations Delegates Dining Room on September 21, 2018 at 5:00pm.

This date coincides with the United Nations International Day of Peace and the 21st Anniversary of Roots of Peace (1997).

The prestigious Earth Ethics Award honors Roots of Peace for their efforts to eradicate landmines and plant bountiful agricultural crops—turning Mines to Vines. “On behalf of The Nobel Peace Prize Family”, said Marcus Nobel, President of United Earth, “it is my great honor to bestow the inaugural 'Earth Ethics Prize' on the Roots of Peace. Your humanitarian legacy of turning MINESTO VINES—and replacing the scourge of landmines with bountiful agricultural crops worldwide, is absolutely fantastic! Your work of uniting people across the world by eliminating landmines and replacing them with food, spices and flowers — is an achievement that deserves to be supported and recognized”, saidNobel.

“Earlier this month, I stood on the former minefields of the Shomali Plains in Afghanistan to stand in solidarity with proud farmers who were growing fresh grapes on former battlefields,” stated Heidi Kuhn, Founder/ CEO, Roots of Peace. “On 9/11, we flew cargo planes of fresh produce to new markets in India where Afghan traders negotiated over $82 Million in Trade Deals—a taste of peace!,”

Roots of Peace will also host a private meeting with His Excellency President Emmerson D. Mnangagwa at The HiltonAmbassadorlocated acrossfromUnited NationsHeadquartersonSaturday,September22,2018 at 9:00am.

President Mnangagwa recognizes the successful accomplishments of Roots of Peace planting grapes in Afghanistan, cherries in Croatia, rice in Cambodia, pepper in Vietnam and seeks to replicate this model in his own country. Roots of Peace has been invited by the newly elected President to Zimbabwe in October 2018 to evaluate the landmine crisis and determine the best high value crops to be grown on former war-torn lands for export to new markets—benefiting poor rural farmers and providing a firm foundation for the ‘economics of Peace’ to flourish.
