77th Anniversary Of Original Un Delegates In Muir Woods, Marin County, California
The Forest Is An Enduring Symbol Of Peace.
On May 19, 1945, the original delegates of the United Nations gathered beneath the towering redwood trees of Muir Woods following the atrocities of World War II. American President Franklin Delano Roosevelt never wanted the world to experience another horrific war and selected the majestic forest in Marin County, California, as an inspiration site in nature for the world to draw ancient wisdom from these divine ‘temples of peace’.
“Here in this grove of enduring redwoods, preserved for posterity, members of the United Nations conference on international organizations met on May 19, 1945, to honor the memory of Franklin Delano Rooselvelt, thirty-first president of the United States, chief architect of the United Nations, and apostle of lasting peace for all mankind.”

Today, the world is tragically on the brink of another World War III. As humanity, we must return to our ‘roots’ and seek planetary realism.
In 1997, Roots of Peace began a vision from the living room of our Kuhn family home in Marin County-- drawing from the ancient wisdom of these same redwood trees and the dream for a more peaceful world. For by removing a landmine, and planting a tree of life, it is an ‘act of peace.’
While these towering redwood trees may extend three hundred feet into the sky, our attention turns to their roots. Amazingly, redwood roots intertwined with each other to share nutrients and provide structural support.
This is ‘how’ these redwood trees have endured for thousands of years—they ‘support’ one another. They persist through combined strength and shared nourishment.
We must do the same, as human beings. We must intertwine our purpose with the plight of others. Such is the mission of Roots of Peace.
We aim to provide our fellow human beings with the support necessary to grow--to endure--to flourish.
From the heart of Marin County to the world, may we continue to plant the Roots of Peace on earth…now.
